AI can help you learn English. But it can't make the effort for you.

We’ve never had so many opportunities to learn and practise English. Today, we can talk to AI at any time, prepare for a job interview, rehearse a presentation, repeat a conversation or practise professional situations before facing them in real life. Technology is removing many of the barriers to learning. But there’s one thing it can’t do for us: practise. After 36 years of teaching English, I’ve seen the same thing time and again: the people who make the most progress aren’t always those who find English easiest. They’re often the ones who stay in contact with the language and practise consistently. Read. Listen. Speak. Make mistakes. Correct them. Try again. And come back tomorrow. AI can be incredibly valuable in that process. It can give us practice whenever we need it, let us repeat without fear of making mistakes and turn ten spare minutes into ten minutes of real conversation. But a tool that’s available 24/7 means very little if we don’t use it. At NextGen Tutor, we believe in exactly that combination. Technology shouldn’t replace the learner’s effort. It should make that effort easier to turn into meaningful practice. Because knowing English and being able to use it confidently are two very different things. We can build increasingly realistic avatars, personalise conversations and create opportunities for practice that seemed impossible just a few years ago. But there are two things technology can never replace: a commitment to excellence and the value of effort. AI can help us go further. But we still have to take the steps.
